Solano County

Solano County is a located between San Francisco and Sacramento in California. Along with 8 other counties, Solano County comprises the San Francisco Bay Area counties, and it is also one the North Bay countries along with 3 others. According to the 2010 census, the population of Solano County was approximately 413,344. Its largest city is Vallejo, and the seat of the county is Fairfield.

Possession of Marijuana in Solano County

Solano CountyCalifornia law has largely decriminalized the possession of small amounts of marijuana in Solano County and most other counties. In fact, marijuana may even be cultivated and processed by certain individuals in limited amounts. There cut-off amount before marijuana possession becomes a criminal offense is 28.5 grams. Below this limit, offenders will only be charged with a civil infraction, which carries only a $100 fine. However, possession of marijuana in excess of 28.5 grams is a criminal offense for which the offender may be sentenced to 6 months in jail and be required to pay a $500 fine.

Solano County’s Cultivation Laws

Marijuana may be cultivated in Solano County by medical marijuana patients, caregivers, and owners of legal dispensaries. Patients are allowed to maintain a maximum of 6 mature plants or 12 immature plants and 8 ounces of bud, which is the same limit imposed on caregivers for every patient that they have in their care. Patients will first need the approval of a doctor for medical marijuana use and secure a state-issued marijuana ID card. This guarantees against criminal prosecution for the cultivation and processing of marijuana within the limits set by law. Owners of legal dispensaries are also allowed to maintain a certain number of plants for every patient that they provide service to. The unauthorized cultivation and processing of marijuana is punishable by 16 months in prison.

Distribution of Marijuana in Solano County

California law also prohibits the sale of marijuana in Solano County, which is an offense punishable by 2 to 4 years or 3 to 5 years in prison depending in whether or not the sale was made to a minor.
